Description

Bogong Strata shares the same granite as Bogong Random, mid to dark grey with cool blue undertones and flashes of rust and warm beige through the stone. The difference is the format. Strata presents the stone in a linear ledgestone profile, cut into courses up to 600mm long that lay horizontally and give a wall a clean, directional grain.

That coursed layout reads more considered than the random format, which makes it a natural fit for contemporary facades, feature walls, and fireplace surrounds where the horizontal line is part of the design intent. Dry stacking is the more common installation choice for strata, as the linear pieces sit tight against each other, though it can also be grouted. The two formats can also be mixed on the same wall for a more varied result.

Matching L-shaped corners are available up to 300mm, and the stone runs 20-40mm thick. Walling is supplied in 10m² crates, corners in 25 lm crates.

Bogong Strata is laid in a large scale wall display in our showroom - come in to see it up close and pick up a free sample!

How is Bogong Strata installed?

Pieces are sawn flat on the back and applied to a suitable substrate using standard stone adhesive. Dry stacking is the more common choice for strata, as the linear pieces sit tight against each other, though it can also be grouted. Corner units come in L-shapes and interlock to give the appearance of a solid structural wall. Our installation guide covers the full process.

Can Bogong Strata be used outdoors?

Yes. As a granite, it's dense, frost-resistant, and won't deteriorate with moisture or UV exposure. It's regularly specified for exterior facades, retaining walls, and outdoor entertaining or barbeque areas, as well as indoor applications like fireplaces and feature walls.

How much Bogong Strata do I need to order?

Walling is packaged as 10m² per crate and corners as 25 lineal metres per crate, but these are packing references rather than fixed order quantities - we pack off to the exact m² or lm you need rather than requiring you to round up to a full crate. Measure the total wall area and subtract any openings. It's worth ordering a small amount extra to account for cuts, particularly around corners.

What's the difference between Bogong Strata and Bogong Random?

Strata is cut into horizontal courses up to 600mm long, giving a clean, linear, layered look. Random uses irregular pieces up to 400mm across for a more organic, non-repeating result. Both are the same stone, so they can be used together in the same project if you want to mix the two. See Bogong Random for the organic version.

Can I see Bogong Strata before ordering?

Yes. Bogong Strata is on display in our Oakleigh East showroom at wall scale. Free samples are also available to take away. Showroom hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm and Saturday 9am - 3pm.
